Pakistan Navy Central
Library (PNCL) was initially established in 1951 and was shifted
from 10 Liaquat Barracks Karachi to its present location at Pakistan
Maritime Museum (PMM) in 2005. PNCL has now been upgraded to
Research and Reference level during 2007-08 with a
Mission:
"
To provide a reading, learning and research
environment in PN and to make the Library a
Centre of Knowledge on Maritime and Military
science besides general subjects
"
LIBRARY UP-GRADATION
The up-gradation included
extensive renovation, furnishing, computerization, addition of new books taking inventory beyond
20600+, foreign periodicals, Research Librarian, 5 research cubicles
with internet facility, LAN environment, open bookshelves, dedicated
book stands / areas and launching of Website. PNCL is the first library in Pakistan to
have an extraordinary collection on
Cartography i.e. “Mathematical Geography and Cartography in Islam; 3
volumes set by Fuat Sezgin”.
CONDUCIVE
ENVIRONMENT
Library
is fully air-conditioned and the entire area
surrounding the library has been tastefully
landscaped with lush green lawns and seasonal as
well as perennial plants.
SPECIAL ADDITION OF BOOKS
About
800 new
books have been added to the 19,800 old Books during 2006-08.
Mostly these books are subject specific and cover various
fields of Military / Maritime, Naval, strategy, international
affairs and technical subjects besides general literature /
fiction, etc.
ADDITION OF
NEWSPAPERS & PERIODICALS
The number of
newspapers and periodicals has been increased from 24 to 39
including many top rated foreign periodicals such as Economist,
Discover, Popular Science & Mechanics, Naval Review, Foreign Affairs, Scientist American, PC Magazine, Daily Khaleej Times etc
RESEARCH CUBICLES
05 research cubicles have also been added each having wireless
networked workstation with fast computer.
