LIBRARY

 

General

 

a.         PN War College Library is meant to assist the Course members in pursuit of their studies.  The Staff Course curriculum necessitates the members of the course to consult books and  periodicals to complete their schemes and other staff exercises.  Library consist of about 10000 books.  45 in number periodicals and magazines or prescribed by the library.  Internet facility is also available in library. 

 

b.         The Library rules have been framed to ensure that the facilities in the Library are managed efficiently and are conveniently available to all course members.

 

Library Rules

 

a.         The Library is primarily for the use of the officers borne on the books of PN War College.

 

b.         The maximum duration for which books can be drawn is 10 days.  In case any book is required after this period, the same can be re-drawn after renewal.  However, the books are required to be produced physically at the time of renewal.  Those books which are under demand by other officers are normally not renewed.

 

c.         The maximum number of books which can be issued to an officer at any one time is 5 excluding text books.

 

d.         Reference and reserved books, documents, reports, periodicals and newspaper clippings are meant for everyone's use within the Library as such these are not issued.

 

e.         No material is to be taken outside the Library without its entry in the Issue Register by the Library Staff.

 

f.         It is expected that the members will not mark the books with ink or pencil and take due care to prevent any damage/loss to the book while it is in their use.  Members wishing to have a personal copy of an article or passage from a book or periodical can do so through reproduction facilities of the College. It is therefore expected that officers will not spoil books or periodicals in any manner.

 

g.         Members drawing the books will be responsible for any loss/damage to the book while in their custody.  The charge to compensate loss/damage may entail full recovery of the cost as well as upto a 100% surcharge at the discretion of the Commandant.

 

h.          Library Staff will issue a written reminder in case the books are not returned or renewed within the period as specified above.  Names of the members not responding to the reminder within 72 hours are to be forwarded to the Deputy Commandant on the following day for necessary action.

 

J.          The Library will observe following timings:

 

(1)        Monday to Thursday    -           0800 to 1400

            and Saturday

 

(2)        Friday                          -           0800 to 1200

 

(3)        Sunday and Holidays    -           Closed

 

k.        Members desirous of using Library after working hours from Monday to Thursday are required to forward their demand to Library Officer duly endorsed by Syndicate DS, one day in advance.

 

l.         No personal books, brief cases, caps etc are to be brought into the Library.  These are to be kept outside the Library preferably in the Syndicate rooms.  The library books which have been drawn by the members previously are not to be brought in the library unless required for return or renewal.  However, officers may bring in their note books for taking notes.

 

m.         As a policy no current magazine/journal will be issued to any member.

 

            n.          Members are advised to observe complete silence in the library.
